About Raymond Nance

Raymond Nance has been the Head of Glen Urquhart since 1997.  Prior to that he served as the head of two other independent schools: Loudoun Country Day School (VA), and Christ Episcopal School (LA).  Raymond began his teaching career as a middle school English teacher at Trinity Episcopal School in New Orleans.  A native of Texas, he has a Bachelor of Arts in English from Texas Tech University, and a Master of Theology from Southern Methodist University.  He spent two years studying theology at SMU, and then spent two years living in East Harlem (New York City) and doing independent study in Christian ethics.  After graduating from SMU, he spent three years as a youth minister and director of community service at a United Methodist Church in New Orleans, which led to his embarking on a teaching career at Trinity.

Raymond and his wife, Debby, have two daughters and two grandsons, of whom they are justifiably proud.  One daughter lives in Tennessee, where her husband is a college professor and she is an art teacher at an independent boarding and day school.  Their two sons are five and one-and-a-half.  The younger daughter lives nearby and works as a certified nursing assistant at a local hospital.

Raymond’s mantra is, “I love this school,” which he truly does.  He has stated repeatedly that it’s the most fun he has ever had working in a school.  If you would like to know more about him or his family, or his views about education at Glen Urquhart, just ask.
